Equinox scores 'Win and You’re In' ticket to Cox Plate 2023
Equinox, the world’s highest-ranked racehorse, lived up to his reputation by delivering a stunning performance in the Group 1 Takarazuka Kinen at Hanshin.
Despite starting near the rear of the field, Equinox, ridden by Christoph Lemaire, made a sweeping move around the outside and powered home to victory.
Moonee Valley Racing Club’s Head of Racing, Charlotte Mills, was in attendance and extended an invitation to Equinox’s connections for the prestigious Cox Plate 2023, following the club’s announcement of a “Win and You’re In” invitation for the Takarazuka Kinen winner.
Trained by Tetsuya Kimura, Equinox is Japan’s reigning Horse of the Year and currently holds the title of the LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse.
Equinox’s triumph in the Takarazuka Kinen holds great significance as the winner of this race, such as Japan’s brilliant mare Lys Gracieux in 2019, often goes on to win the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.
With four consecutive Group 1 victories under his belt, Equinox’s potential participation in the Cox Plate is eagerly anticipated by racing enthusiasts worldwide, as they prepare to witness the exceptional talent of this outstanding Japanese champion.
