Oakleigh Plate winner Marabi retired from racing

Marabi, the exceptional speedster who achieved an incredible winning streak of seven races, starting from a Pakenham maiden and culminating in a Group 1 triumph in the Oakleigh Plate, has officially been retired from racing.

Following a surgery, Marabi’s form dipped in the past spring, prompting owner and breeder Greg Perry to make the decision.

Perry, now focusing on the next phase of Marabi’s career, will explore suitable stallion options for breeding during the upcoming season.

The daughter of I Am Invincible and half-sister to VRC Oaks winner Aristia, Marabi’s breeding choices hold intriguing possibilities.

Perry considers potential matings with first-season sire Shamus Award and finds it amusing that she also shows compatibility with Artorius, a horse he bred and sold.

Perry emphasizes the importance of cautious decision-making when pairing speed mares with stallions, suggesting the need for stamina in offspring.

However, he acknowledges that exceptional speed can still be produced from speed stallions, particularly noting the compatibility between Artorius and I Am Invincible mares.

Perry plans to finalize his decision on Marabi’s breeding plans within the next two weeks.

Despite her limited race appearances, having competed only 10 times, Perry praises Marabi’s physical attributes, highlighting her size, strength, and impressive hindquarters.

Remembering her unparalleled speed, he expresses his pride, stating that Marabi possessed unmatched natural speed, making her a truly exceptional horse.
