Militarize to press onto the Cox Plate 2023
Despite a disappointing performance as the beaten favourite in the Caulfield Guineas, it appears that Militarize's connections are still committed to the $5 million Cox Plate.
The son of Dundeel failed to make a significant impact in the 1600-meter classic on Saturday, dropping back to near the rear after a poor start. However, managing owner Henry Field, who represents Newgate Farm, stated on Sunday that the plan is to proceed with the Cox Plate 2023.
Field emphasized, "If he's healthy and well and Chris (Waller) is happy with him over the next seven days, it is highly likely we'll still go to the Cox Plate. We'll always put the horse's welfare first, especially with a special colt like him."
Despite drifting out to $11 in the hours following his Caulfield Guineas defeat, Militarize has been well backed with bookmakers on Sunday which has seen his price firm back into $8.00.
