Lang and Boss the right 2025 Queensland Guineas combo

Rising jockey Emily Lang has the backing of leading trainer Tony Gollan heading into Saturday’s Queensland Guineas, where she partners the progressive Boomtown Boss at Eagle Farm.

Lang has been in outstanding form in the 2024/25 Brisbane metropolitan premiership with 52 winners, ahead of rivals Angela Jones and the overseas-based James Orman. A university graduate in data science and engineering, her path to the saddle is unconventional—but it’s proving highly successful.

With the Queensland winter carnival in full swing, Lang knows top rides will be hotly contested, but Gollan has placed his trust in her once again aboard one of his stable stars.

“He is still doing things wrong in running and still presenting in the wrong part of the track but I think if we can improve that little more again, and there’s no doubt that he loves the big track at Eagle Farm, I don’t think there’s any risk that he won’t run a mile,” Gollan said.

Boomtown Boss has won both starts this campaign, including the Listed Daybreak Lover Stakes (1400m) on April 19, and shapes as a key player in the $350,000 Group 2 for three-year-olds.

“I love the horse and rider combination with Emily,” Gollan said. “She knows the horse so well and I lose nothing by having her on. We go into the race well prepared.”

Bookmakers have Boomtown Boss at $8, with Churchill’s Choice the current $6 favourite, joined by Depth Of Character and Shangri La Spring, who have been well supported in early betting.

“With a few southerners coming up, we get pushed down the chain a bit, but he is a very progressive horse and we are happy with him,” Gollan said.
