Wuddzz wants it wet at Randwick races

Posted by RS NewsWire at 5:21pm on May 23rd

Henry Dwyer is juggling preparations for two key runners this weekend, with Group 1-winning mare Asfoora having her final tune-up before Royal Ascot and consistent mudlark Wuddzz set to strike on a rain-affected track in Sydney.

Asfoora, winner of the King Charles III Stakes (1000m), will complete her final piece of work at Flemington on Friday. Dwyer hopes the gallop will fire her up after what he described as a slightly lacklustre performance in the Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) last month.

“She just felt flat that day,” Dwyer said. “But this is her final blowout before she jets off, and we’re confident she’s right back on track.”

Meanwhile, all eyes will be on Randwick, where Wuddzz lines up in the P F Civil Handicap (2400m). With heavy rain forecast leading into the meeting, the seven-year-old is well-placed to pounce.

“He’s a complete wet-tracker,” Dwyer explained. “We’ve waited so long for a bottomless track, and this is his chance to shine.”

Wuddzz, who was picked up for a bargain NZ$600, has been a revelation for connections, winning five of his 31 starts and banking over $205,000. He returns to Sydney after a soft track win over 2350m at Warrnambool last month.

“He’s in top form and the extra distance suits. It’s all come together well timing-wise,” Dwyer added.

Dylan Gibbons will partner Wuddzz, who is a $6 contender for Saturday’s staying test.
