Storm Boy’s racing career over as stallion life awaits at Coolmore

Storm Boy’s career has drawn to a close just after his Royal Ascot appearance, with the rising star now set to join the Coolmore stallion roster in Australia.
The colt finished tenth in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (1207m) over the weekend, and subsequent checks revealed lameness, prompting his connections to retire him.
Storm Boy will stand at Coolmore for an introductory fee of $16,500. He was a $460,000 buy at the 2023 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, trained by the powerful Waterhouse-Bott partnership, and retires with over $3.5 million in earnings.
His early racing campaign was near flawless—stringing together four straight wins, including triumphs in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) and the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m).
Storm Boy placed third in the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m), rated 115 by Racing and Sports, and later scored a 118 rating in his return win in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m).
His highest career rating of 119 came in a competitive Group 1 The Everest (1200m) effort, where he ran eighth behind Bella Nipotina.
“He was jaw-dropping, much like his sire Justify,” said Tom Magnier of Coolmore Australia.
“He won five of his first seven starts in a really dominating fashion and was unlucky not to include a Golden Slipper in that tally.
“We took Storm Boy to Europe with the plan of winning the QE II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot but unfortunately we haven’t been able to give him the ideal prep.
“We felt we were getting back to where we needed to be with him, but he was found to be quite lame since returning to Ballydoyle on Saturday.”
Storm Boy’s next chapter begins alongside City Of Troy at Coolmore, where both will serve mares in the upcoming breeding season.
