2025 Empire Rose Stakes triple threat from Waller
Chris Waller is in a familiar position heading into Saturday’s Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes at Flemington, with three mares set to contest the race for his stable.
Fangirl, Lazzura and Leica Lucy make up his team in the prestigious mile event, where Waller will attempt to secure his fourth win in the race after successes in 2013, 2018 and 2023.
Fangirl is the standout based on record and reputation.
“I’m very happy with Fangirl after her work on Tuesday,” Waller said.
“She would be the top seed just on class alone based on what she has done throughout her career.
“She’s in the twilight zone (career wise), but she was bright and happy on Tuesday morning at Breakfast With The Stars.
“She had a good look around up the straight, but she’s ready to turn it on, on Saturday.”
Leica Lucy receives a small tweak in her gear setup, on the recommendation of Darren Beadman, with encouraging feedback from Steven Arnold after trackwork.
Lazzura meanwhile is tipped to appreciate returning to Flemington after being asked to race more prominently in the Toorak than her usual pattern.
“She had a tough run early and I think she’s better ridden off the speed a little bit and I think she’ll really love coming back to Flemington,” Waller said.
