Pre-race parade key for juvenile Seeiaye in 2025 Max Lees Classic
Seeiaye will make his debut as favourite for the Max Lees Classic at Newcastle, but trainer Peter Snowden says the colt’s performance hinges on how he behaves before the race.
The two-year-old has shown professionalism in both trials leading into Saturday, placing second in his first appearance before stretching out nicely to win a 900m Rosehill heat with authority.
Snowden is certain about the youngster’s natural talent — but much depends on whether Seeiaye stays focused when it matters.
“He can gallop,” Snowden said.
“He worked terrific on Tuesday, but he’s just got to take that quiet attitude to the races.
“If he gets there and he’s showing his anatomy off to everyone that’s not going to be good.
“If he holds it together in the mounting yard, you’ll know how he will run and if he does hold it together, he will run really well.”
The $65,000 Magic Millions purchase remains a colt and is one of a dozen newcomers contesting the Max Lees Classic (900m), held each year in honour of Newcastle’s revered former trainer.
His son Kris Lees claimed an emotional victory in last year’s running with Gobi Desert and again saddles two runners — Farhah and Pomelo Chamomile — chasing another family success.
