Sheza worthy favourite in the 2025 Sandown Guineas

Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman have already celebrated Guineas success at Caulfield this spring, and they head into the weekend strongly fancied to do it again.
Their promising filly Sheza Alibi is the $1.70 favourite for Saturday’s running of the Sandown Guineas, giving the stable another prime opportunity to shine.
The $400,000 event arrives just four weeks after their Group 1 triumph with Ole Dancer in the Thousand Guineas, and Coleman is thrilled that Sheza Alibi has progressed to the mile feature.
Brought down from Queensland to capitalise on the deep pool of spring Black Type races for three-year-olds, Sheza Alibi has flourished, and Coleman believes the best is still ahead of her.
“These fillies, you’re just always looking to build on their pedigree, so this is a brilliant opportunity to try and do that with her,” Coleman said.
“I think, in the autumn, she’s going to be probably a bit more furnished and a bit more mature and I certainly think that she’ll be in some of those nice races over the autumn.”
Before arriving in Victoria, Sheza Alibi raced four times in Queensland. She was runner-up on debut, broke her maiden at Rockhampton, then captured the Townsville 2YO Classic before finishing second in the Listed Tatts Stakes.
She made her southern debut in the Gothic Stakes and ran third, then took a significant step forward when storming home to win the Group 3 The Vanity at Flemington on Derby Day.
Her 1-3/4 length win over 1400m signalled that she is primed for Saturday’s rise in distance.
“The way she finished that race off and how well she came through it gave us the idea that we might look at her at the mile,” Coleman said.
“She’s given us every indication that she’s going to eat it up.”
Regular rider Luke Nolen stays aboard and will guide her from barrier one in the 12-horse lineup.
