Yulong’s Extreme measures at 2026 Magic Millions Gold Coast

Yulong’s success with Extreme Choice continued at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale on Wednesday, as the powerhouse owner secured the standout lot of Day 2 for $2 million.
The Victorian operation paid top dollar for a colt by Extreme Choice out of the Hinchinbrook mare Hazlebrook, hoping to replicate the success achieved with Devil Night last season.
The colt is a brother to Group 3 winner Wollombi, also raced by Yulong, and general manager Jun Zhang said building strong family lines remains a core strategy.
“He’s a very special colt, he was our only target that we definitely needed to buy,” Zhang said.
“We can see some stallion potential with him and also we own the sister as well, she is in-foal to Diatonic, so we try and create our own families so that is another reason why we had to get him.
“Extreme Choice is a very successful stallion and could be a history (making) stallion in the future, so this is why Mr Zhang is trying to get every Extreme Choice he can.”
Yulong’s confidence in the sire was rewarded last year when Devil Night, a $1.4 million Magic Millions buy, claimed the Blue Diamond Stakes.
The Extreme Choice colt became the second $2 million yearling of the sale, following the Frankel colt purchased by Coolmore on the opening day.
Wednesday’s session also produced two Snitzel colts at $1.5 million, with Tom Magnier securing a brother to Beadman and China Horse Club, Newgate and Clarke Bloodstock landing a son of Embrace Me.
A Snitzel filly out of Group 1 winner Krone sold to James Harron for $1.2 million, while the Rising Sun Syndicate matched that figure for an I Am Invincible filly out of Key, headed to the Waterhouse and Bott stable.
As the sale continues to shape the future racing landscape, attention is already turning to how these investments may play out on track, with interest reflected across major betting platforms.
By the close of Wednesday’s session, nearly $94 million had been spent across the first two days at an average of $288,267, a median of $200,000 and an 83 percent clearance rate.
