Future History read to make another mark in 2026 Australia Day Cup

Future History will attempt to extend his winning streak when he lines up in Monday’s Listed Australia Day Cup (2400m) at Warwick Farm.

The Ciaron Maher-trained stayer has hit a rich vein of form after a patient campaign and now looks set for another strong showing.

“He’s in a good spot and when he gets that right race shape, I don’t think it matters what the trip is,” Maher said.

The eight-year-old arrives off victories in the Christmas Cup, the Bagot Handicap and the January Cup, each coming under different riders.

Adam Hyeronimus takes over the reins again, having enjoyed strong success when teaming up with the Maher stable.

“It is all about the race shape and when he gets his way, he quickens up,” Maher said.

“He’s a horse that just needs everything to fall into place, and when it does, he’s very hard to beat.”

Maher said the gelding took time to recover after contesting the 2023 Melbourne Cup, but is now back to his best.

“He’s fit, sound and thriving, and that’s what you want at this stage of the preparation,” he said.

Those assessing the Australia Day Cup can view the latest racing betting markets ahead of Monday’s feature.
