Golden Slipper, Flight Stakes winners trial at Randwick

Posted by RS NewsWire at 2:14pm on January 27th

Michael Freedman has started locking in autumn plans for Marhoona, Apocalyptic and Manaal following a busy morning of trials at Randwick.

Golden Slipper winner Marhoona impressed when leading throughout to win her heat, while Apocalyptic and Manaal both featured in the following trial behind Group 1 winner Beiwacht.

Freedman said Apocalyptic’s campaign would follow a familiar path.

“She will just have a fairly steady one and then we will probably bring her here for the Light Fingers,” Freedman said.

“I’m keeping options open. Depending how she comes back, we may look at keeping her to shorter course races.

“The first two would be obvious choices, the Light Fingers and Surround, but beyond that we will keep an open mind.”

The Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes is scheduled for February 14, followed by the Group 1 Surround Stakes.

Freedman also provided an update on Manaal and Marhoona.

“Manaal will run in either the Triscay or the Expressway, and Marhoona is one I’m still working through, possibly looking at Melbourne,” he said.

Other notable trial performers included Just Feelin’ Lucky, Ceolwulf, Lady Shenandoah and Aeliana as the stable builds towards the autumn carnival.
