Jolly pair to tackle delayed 2026 Durbridge Stakes

Posted by RS NewsWire at 5:34pm on January 30th

Trainer Richard Jolly says patience has paid off after his two runners avoided any setbacks following the postponement of last week’s Morphettville meeting.

Klabel and Great Maximus will both contest the Listed Durbridge Stakes (1100m) on Saturday after the race was delayed due to extreme heat conditions.

Jolly admitted the extra week wasn’t ideal but said both horses remain in good shape.

“It’s never great when you’re geared up to race and then it gets called off,” he said.

“But thankfully it hasn’t disrupted their preparation. They’re ready to go now.”

Klabel comes into the race off a confidence-boosting win in the Listed Christmas Handicap and appears well placed again.

“He’s been racing well for a while and finally got his reward last start,” Jolly said.

“He’s honest, consistent, and Adelaide probably suits him better than travelling interstate.”

Great Maximus faces a more difficult task under weight-for-age conditions, particularly on firm ground.

“He probably prefers some give in the track and another run under his belt,” Jolly said.

“But he’s still a capable horse and needs to be kept ticking over ahead of the winter.”
