Fitter Samangu ready to pounce in 2026 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes

After two runs back from a lengthy break, Grahame Begg believes Samangu is now ready to produce her best performance when she contests the Group 3 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.
The mare returned to racing in December after nine months off and initially struggled to find her rhythm.
Begg expected her to be underdone first-up and wasn’t overly concerned when she finished last at Caulfield Heath.
Her second run, however, gave the stable far more encouragement.
“She needed the first run badly and the second run was much more what we wanted to see,” Begg said.
“She ran well in the Standish and was one of the few making ground on the inside, which wasn’t easy.”
He noted the strength of the form with several runners from that race performing strongly since.
“Hedged went on to win after that and she made a nice move at them around the 300,” he said.
“She’s trained on well since and I think she’s just about ready to peak.”
Begg also pointed to Samangu’s strong record at Caulfield as a major positive heading into Saturday’s assignment.
