Magnaspin finds winning form at Caulfield races

Posted by RS NewsWire at 5:16pm on January 31st

Magnaspin’s long-awaited return to the winner’s stall came at Caulfield on Saturday after a well-executed front-running ride from Jamie Melham.

The gelding, trained by Leon and Troy Corstens and Will Larkin, led from early and showed plenty of determination to claim the A Caulfield Kind Of Summer Handicap (2000m).

Melham took control soon after the start and rated the race perfectly, with Magnaspin holding off Jenni’s Meadow by half a length, while Regal Lion finished just behind them.

Larkin said patience had been the key to getting the gelding back into winning form.

“Last preparation he was rushing his races and not seeing out the trip,” Larkin said.

“We gave him a good spell and built him up steadily this time, and it’s really paid off.

“He’s much more relaxed and that’s allowed him to finish his races properly.”

Larkin was full of praise for Melham’s handling of the horse throughout the run.

“She let him find his rhythm and didn’t panic. It was a very good ride,” he said.

With future targets still being mapped out, those following the form can find markets through leading betting markets for the race.
