Blue Diamond Stakes 2026 beckons for unbeaten Big Sky

Posted by RS NewsWire at 5:16pm on January 31st

Big Sky has stamped himself as a leading Blue Diamond contender after a dominant performance at Caulfield for the Mick Price and Michael Kent stable.

The colt now sits atop markets for the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes following his commanding win in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes.

Stablemate Guest House is also in the mix and is set to line up in the Blue Diamond Prelude after impressing on debut at Cranbourne.

Ridden by Ben Melham, Big Sky was sent out a $1.60 favourite and made every post a winner, drawing clear of Invincible Son with La Gitana close behind.

Price said the colt had improved significantly since his first career start.

“I think he lost a bit of nervousness from Flemington,” Price said.

“He was much more relaxed today and that made a big difference.

“He’s a quiet colt and still learning, but with three weeks between runs, he should come on again.”

The trainer said the decision to avoid the Prelude had been deliberate.

“I thought the three weeks suited him better than the quick backup,” he said.

“You can’t overdo it with these two-year-olds early in their preparation.”

Price acknowledged the colt was still raw late in the race but was pleased with his effort.

“He was feeling it late, but that’s to be expected at this stage,” he said.

“We’ll just keep working with him and see where he gets to.”

With Blue Diamond markets shifting rapidly, punters can track the latest prices through leading online bookmakers.
