Godolphin hopeful Green Spaces repeats spring feat in Rosehill Guineas

The lightly raced Green Spaces, a three-year-old, secured his career-best win third-up in spring, and his stable is targeting the same preparation blueprint ahead of the Rosehill Guineas.

Godolphin's colt dominated by three lengths in November's Group 3 Spring Stakes (1600m) at Newcastle, after which trainer Bjorn Baker sent him for a break with the Sydney autumn in his sights.

"He was exceptional third-up last time in the Spring Stakes at Newcastle, so we're following that same path, although he's up to 2000 (metres)," Baker said.

"Everything we see suggests that will suit him.

"Having said that, it's going to be a tough race, no doubt about it. But he's actually deceivingly fast, so if he can get a nice run in transit and relax, I'm sure he is going to be strong late."

He was forward in the run when tiring to sixth on resumption in the Hobartville Stakes (1400m), before settling at the tail in the Randwick Guineas (1600m) and flashing home late for another sixth placing behind Sheza Alibi.

Green Spaces, by Street Boss from the Redoute's Choice mare Outdoor, boasts the identical nick to Godolphin's 2022 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) winner Anamoe, out of fellow Redoute's Choice mare Anamato.

He's next in the market behind the favourite for the ATC Australian Derby (2400m), with jockey Rachel King so convinced of his ability that she flew back from Japan to steer him in a February trial.

Baker admitted her optimism boosts the team's belief.

"For sure it does. She believes in him. She always has," he said.

"The way he has been galloping recently, it's hard not to have a bit of confidence going into the Rosehill Guineas."

Saturday's classic also features Godolphin's Ciaron Maher charge Observer, the unbeaten Victoria Derby graduate after two Melbourne wins including last month's Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m).

On debut in Sydney at Rosehill, he's the $2.70 second elect at the hands of Autumn Boy ($2.10 favourite), with Green Spaces rated a $12 shot.
