Modest stable's Ipswich effort marks step toward loftier goals

Typically, a hand fracture brings setbacks, but for low-key trainer Sharryn Livingstone, it sparked a shift into the world of training horses.
With a maximum of four to five horses under her care at any given time, every outcome is crucial, building excitement for Click Click Boom's reappearance at Ipswich on Thursday.
Having his initial run since September, Click Click Boom contests the Schweppes Benchmark 65 Handicap in an 800-metre sprint.
"He hasn't had a jumpout or trial but I did that last prep as well," Livingstone said.
"I think he is going to be a better horse this prep so we'll give him this little race over 800 and set plot a path for him.
"He really improved last prep and I feel that he'll do that again. He's a smart horse who doesn't waste energy as he's not gifted with the best front legs but he's sound.
"If he was in a bigger stable, he may not have been given the time but time and patience has been the main thing."
Acquired for $27,000 during the Magic Millions March Yearling Sale, this Spirit Of Boom gelding from Queensland has delivered well beyond expectations, posting three triumphs and five placings in just 13 outings for his trainer.
Just once has he failed to crack the first four, commendable for a horse climbing the Racing and Sports ratings ladder after reaching 94 at Gold Coast.
Click Click Boom is set to be Livingstone's 170th starter, where she holds a 14% win percentage and 42% placing rate.
With roots in a family of trainers, Sharryn mainly worked as a casual trackwork rider with an additional role, but a broken hand in 2020 redirected her path.
"I hadn't worked in a stable before, but when I had the injury I thought I should retire from track riding," Livingstone added.
"When I got a horse called Heart Vanderlay, that's when I thought I might as well become a trainer. I was winging it learning off other trainers and for now it is working."
Click Click Boom gets the services of Justin Stanley, who is back after injury absence since last July.
