Exit filly bypasses Sydney for Maher's Adelaide stakes raid

Black-type performances are crucial for fillies eyeing broodmare careers down the line.
Fresh from her Flemington success last time out, Exit is making tracks for Adelaide to chase stakes glory in the Listed H C Nitschke Stakes (1400m) over at Morphettville Parks on Saturday.
The Ciaron Maher charge is entered for the Group 3 James H B Carr Stakes (1400m) at Randwick this weekend too, but lacks a booked jockey, while Rochelle Milnes, a leading SA hoop, is locked in for Adelaide.
Jack Turnbull, assistant trainer nationally for Ciaron Maher's operation, indicated the Adelaide race offers a kinder assignment.
"Hopefully we can get a Black Type victory and that's why we're going," Turnbull said.
"There was a horse in Sydney that was undefeated and obviously the one to beat, and it was drawn outside us, but we've decided on Adelaide given it's a more realistic chance in terms of winning.
"She was an expensive yearling and if we can get Black Type on her page with victory as a three-year-old, it would be huge for her."
To date, Exit has two wins from eight starts, with Turnbull looking for ongoing progress.
Her most recent run at 1400m in Flemington saw her surge clear on a heavy surface for an effortless victory with Jamie Melham aboard.
Exit notched her maiden at Sandown in July last year on soft going.
"She will continue to get better, and she's really come on with the blinkers," Turnbull said.
Moreover, 1400 metres is spot on for her.
She possesses tactical ability at this distance, allowing placement anywhere, and barrier six should see her forward in the first four or five.
Soft conditions are her preference, so rain would enhance her prospects.
