Maher team pivots Twilight Elegance to Morphettville stakes
Seeking significant Black Type credentials, Ciaron Maher's team has decided to send Twilight Elegance to Adelaide.
This Saturday's Listed Port Adelaide Cup (2518m) at Morphettville gives the mare a shot at Black Type, which would notably elevate her broodmare potential.
She had been entered for Flemington last Saturday, yet after checking the long-term weather predictions hinting at rain, the stable opted for the Adelaide option.
Adelaide's Saturday weather is set at 25c accompanied by 3-10mm of predicted rain.
Twilight Elegance claimed success at 2500m on Soft 5 going at Pakenham last month, then placed fifth behind The Western Front over 2400m at Caulfield on April 4.
The Western Front took out the Flemington contest that Twilight Elegance bypassed last Saturday.
According to Jack Turnbull, National Assistant Trainer at Ciaron Maher Racing, the race comes at an ideal moment and offers Twilight Elegance a prime chance to grab essential Black Type.
"She ran well at Caulfield last start after winning over the trip at Pakenham," Turnbull said.
"For an opportunity to run in a Listed race and attempt to get some all-important Black Type on her page, it makes sense.
"We know she wants ground and if we do get some rain, then that will only enhance her chances."
A field of 11 has assembled for the Port Adelaide Cup, where Twilight Elegance sits in gate seven with Jamie Melham riding.
