Kembla Grange incident leaves Schiller needing medical okay for upcoming rides

Following a tumble at Kembla Grange on race day, Tyler Schiller faces the requirement of medical clearance to complete his commitments at Wagga and Hawkesbury over the coming days.

In Wednesday's second race, Schiller was on board Hawkes Racing's Winters Kiss, the mare holding a forward position and appearing likely to battle for victory until she broke down approaching the last 200 metres.

The jockey sought to withdraw her from contention yet was unseated and hit the surface forcefully.

He stood up promptly, but authorities halted his further engagements that afternoon preventively.

Though not present at Kembla, Racing NSW's chief steward Tom Moxon spoke with course officials and stated Schiller sustained no grave damage, requiring medical certification to return.

"It was a heavy fall, and his head did make significant contact with the ground," Moxon said.

"He was assessed by the ambulance officers, and he was cleared of any injury, including concussion. He wasn't showing any signs of concussion.

"But he will need to provide a medical clearance before he can ride again."

Ninth on the Sydney jockeys' ladder at present, Schiller is slated for a single mount at Wyong Thursday, followed by eight at the Wagga Cup showpiece Friday with Bianco Vilano in the main race.

Saturday brings nine rides across 10 events at Hawkesbury's standalone meeting, starring Captain Furai trained by Chris Waller in the Gold Cup (1600m) plus Burma Star, from the same yard, in the Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m).
