Bendigo Guineas provides Jordan Childs with latest feature score

While it lacked the $1 million Group 1 status, Jordan Childs relished continuing his hot streak from last weekend by securing a further feature success at Bendigo this Saturday.

The sharp jockey captured the initial Black Type race on Bendigo's Golden Mile program by joining forces with filly Gold Coast Belle, under Danny O'Brien's training, to claim a resolute win in the $200,000 Listed Bendigo Guineas (1400m).

The result built on his unexpected triumph in the prior Saturday's Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes with Geegees Mistruth – his first top-tier victory after an eight-year gap – leaving Childs excited to preserve the surge.

"Last week was great and I've continued to ride winners since then, so we're in a bit of form at the moment and very happy," Childs said.

"I feel like I've been riding well for a while, I've been very consistent in my riding the last few seasons and I've always been around the mark.

"Not riding Group 1 winners, but riding Group 2 and Group 3 and feature races, so to knock over that second Group 1, hopefully I can build a bit of momentum off that going into the Brisbane Carnival and then into spring."

Thanks to Childs' poise, he avoided any rush even as the known front-runner Gold Coast Belle was pushed to race broader than ideal throughout much of the event, allowing them to battle fiercely late for the win.

The $2.70 favourite edged out Bel Mezyaan ($8.50), who came from the inside rail, by a neck before clearing the third finisher Sulek ($31) by half a head.

"It was a really good effort from her and all credit to the horse," Childs said.

"The race probably didn't work out how we would have liked but good horses overcome that."

With the Bendigo Guineas conquest, Gold Coast Belle now boasts four triumphs in six attempts, the So You Think-sired filly having filled the runner-up spot in her other pair of runs.

Next weekend sees Childs return interstate to the Gold Coast, where he'll team with She's A Hustler for the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes.
