Warrnambool heavy track perfect for La Fracas return

Mick Price alongside Michael Kent Jr endured a longer wait than anticipated to place La Fracas on a Heavy track again, but Warrnambool delivers the chance.
The specialist wet-tracker seeks to uphold his unblemished record in the soggiest conditions for Wednesday's $200,000 Listed Wangoom Handicap (1200m).
His most recent third appearance on Heavy was at Sandown, July 2 last year, securing victory by 2-3/4 lengths.
The trainers kicked off La Fracas' current campaign in Sydney to chase preferred surfaces, yet he only faced Soft 6 in the Group 3 Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m), placing seventh.
"I try to have him fit and well for the right races on wet surfaces," Price said.
"We even had him in Sydney trying to catch the wet tracks but they didn't come, strangely enough.
"But I'm happy with him, his action is great and I think he'll run very well."
Around the Wangoom, the key question is how heavy the Warrnambool strip will be at the 3.20pm AEST start.
The track stood at Heavy 8 before Tuesday's opener, with scant rain due on Day 1 but up to 15mm possible Wednesday.
Price is delighted to reunite the son of Night Of Thunder with Heavy ground but remains wary as it's the carnival's 18th race.
"The difficulty with Warrnambool I've found over the years with my horses, albeit we've trained some winners there, is that you can have a wet tracker that doesn't handle that choppy surface," he said.
"But he's going very well and I think he'll be beautifully suited because it's a tough 1200 there and he's a tough 1200-metre horse."
In the Wangoom Handicap, La Fracas has 54.5kg and Beau Mertens takes the ride from barrier three.
Come Tuesday morning, he sat second-favourite at $4.20 behind local hotpot Oliveanotherday ($2.20).
