I Am Carrot's strong win opens Queensland door for Dilmi

Nacim Dilmi, the young trainer, keeps building momentum for Domeland as I Am Carrot notched up their 30th victory with a standout showing on the Randwick Kensington circuit.

Having previously been employed by Godolphin, Dilmi stepped into the private training role for the breeding and racing business at the beginning of the current season, maintaining a solid 19 per cent win rate.

On Wednesday, I Am Carrot contributed further by securing a decisive success in the Kia Central Region Dealer Of The Year Handicap (1300m), prompting Dilmi to consider stakes options during Brisbane's winter racing.

"It's good to get another win out of the way," Dilmi said.

"I don't want to step up in grade too soon, but he'll go to Queensland after this and hopefully we can find a nice race for him like the Fred Best (Classic), or another stakes race towards the end of the Queensland carnival.

"Obviously if the field is a bit strong or he needs more time I won't rush him into it, but so far he is doing the right things to put his hand up for Queensland."

Jockey Jason Collett guided I Am Carrot ($4.20) to finish with authority, edging out Alphard ($6) by three-quarters of a length, as Events ($14) came home third, a length further in arrears.

According to Dilmi, the choice to geld I Am Carrot prior to his three-year-old campaign proved essential, yielding three wins and two placings from his subsequent five runs.

The Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1400m) is at Eagle Farm on May 30.
