Southern stakes test on the horizon for Chains Of Love

Emerging filly Chains Of Love demonstrated her class by outclassing more seasoned rivals to win the Highway Handicap at Randwick, paving the way for a return to black-type company.
The well-bred filly, by I Am Invincible from the dam Stay With Me, a Group 1 Thousand Guineas victor in 2015, is slated for a trip to Victoria. Her targets include the Listed Creswick Sprint Series Final (1200m) at Flemington next month, followed by a short spell before a tilt at The Kosciuszko (1200m).
Winning trainer Paul Messara indicated, "There is a stakes race for three-year-olds in Melbourne in two weeks down the straight, so that could be a possibility."
He continued, "Then we'll probably give her a little let-up and go for the 'Kosi'."
Messara's assessment of the filly was clear: "I thought she was a Kosciuszko type."
Chains Of Love's victory came in just her fifth career start in the Highway Handicap (1200m) at Randwick. Her prior outing saw her finish unplaced in the Listed Queensland Day Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm.
Messara highlighted that the filly is still maturing but performed exceptionally well to overcome a wide draw. He also commended jockey Aaron Bullock for his astute ride.
"He put her in a position to win the race, and she was too good late," Messara remarked.
"She's still learning her craft, but she's progressive," he added.
Separately, Messara confirmed that juvenile Cormier is enjoying a spell after his strong second in the J J Atkins Stakes (1600m) in Brisbane. The colt is being prepared for a significant spring campaign.
"He's great. He's having a little break, and he will be back for a Golden Rose 'prep'," he stated.
