Track to decide Invincible Caviar’s next start

Trainer Peter Moody wants a dry track to start Invincible Caviar, the best performed off-spring of unbeaten champion Black Caviar.

Invincible Caviar has been entered for a benchmark 84 race over 1200m and a benchmark 84 for fillies and mares (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday with Moody the latter, but the track condition will be all important.

Ahead of acceptances on Wednesday, the Caulfield track was rated a Soft 7 which will be the first meeting there since Caulfield Cup Day last October.

Jump-outs were conducted at Caulfield last week with riders reporting the track was in perfect order.

Invincible Caviar has won four of her seven starts and did land the second of those victories of a Soft 5 surface at Sale last October.

The only other appearance by the mare on soft going was first-up this campaign finishing fifth in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1000m) at Sandown on May 27.

‘We had a throw at the stumps first-up. She would have won that if it was dry,” Moody said.

“She’s like mum, she doesn’t like it wet and she’s not as lucky as mum.

“In 25 starts, the only time she (Black Caviar) found soft going was in England and she nearly got beat.”

It is 11 years this week since Black Caviar registered the narrowest win of her career when successful in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (1200m) at Royal Ascot.

Moody is chasing Black Type with Invincible Caviar which he hopes to achieve before the end of the current season.

He has earmarked the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on July 8 as the potential contest for Invincible Caviar.

“She’ll tick over and run wherever the track is dry,” Moody said.

“She’s ready to go. There’s Saturday race which looks a suitable assignment and then she might back up into the Monash two weeks later.”

Moody will also chase Black Type with Sigh who registered her fifth win from eight starts when successful at Flemington last start.

The Listed Santa Ana Lane Sprint Series Final (1200m) has been earmarked for Sigh.
