Freedman pair set to tackle the Atlantic Jewel Stakes

Anthony and Sam Freedman will have a two-pronged attack in a Stakes race at Moonee Valley as they go about trying to topple brilliant filly Charm Stone.

De Sonic Boom and Right To Party are set to tackle Charm Stone in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) on Saturday.

Both fillies will be having their second runs back after a trip to Brisbane during the winter.

De Sonic Boom ran fourth to Charm Stone in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 19, after being last on the hometurn.

Sam Freedman entered that race without a lot of confidence about the De Sonic Boom’s chances and was pleasantly surprised with what she achieved.

“I was probably pouring a fair bit of cold water on her before her run at Caulfield,” Freedman said.

“And she did surprise a little bit. I think ridden quietly she was entitled to finish off, and she did.

“We’ve put the blinkers back on her. She had worked strongly in them previously and she ran in the Blue Diamond in them and just got it all horribly wrong.”

De Sonic Boom was a debut winner of a Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) but performed below expectations in the Blue Diamond Prelude and the Blue Diamond Stakes, eventually finishing 15th behind Little Brose in the final of the Blue Diamond Series.

But Freedman said De Sonic Boom was more mature now, adding they will still ride the filly quietly.

“She’s a lot more mature now and is relaxing well and she should run a nice race and hopefully the 1200 metres will suit her,” Freedman said.

“We’ll still ride her conservatively and give her something to aim up at and riding her that way, I think she’s more than capable.”

Stablemate Right To Party had two starts in Brisbane during the winter, winning a maiden at Doomben and then running second to Zoukerette, an opponent on Saturday, at Listed level at Eagle Farm.

Right To Party resumed at Moonee Valley on August 26, finishing a closing third behind Inhibitions.

“She was a good closer at her last start in one of the fastest last furlongs of the day,” Freedman said.

“She may well be looking for the 1400 metres, but with a fairer track and a better gate, she should be right there at the finish.

“She can settle a bit closer, hopefully, too.”
