Media World races in BRC Sires and JJ Atkins Stakes contention

Peter and Paul Snowden will set their sights on winter carnival riches in Brisbane with improving youngster Media World following his Clarendon Stakes victory at Hawkesbury.

The Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 1 and Group 1 J J Atkins (1600m) two weeks later are among the options for the two-year-old, pending his progress in the coming weeks.

“He’ll get a mile, whether it’s this prep or next prep, I’m not sure,” Peter Snowden said.

“We did have Brisbane in mind with him, but we will see how he comes through the run.”

By Written Tycoon out of stakes winner Meryl, Media World was a $1.4 million yearling purchase for Yulong Investments and was having his fourth start on Saturday.

After jumping on terms, apprentice Zac Lloyd took Media World ($4.60 betting fav) to the front and while leading hadn’t been in his pre-race plan, the tactics proved decisive.

The youngster relaxed beautifully and gave a strong kick up the straight to hold out Monte Veebee ($7.50) by a short neck with Canara ($9.50) best of the rest, another 2-1/2 lengths away third.

“The plan wasn’t really to lead, ideally it was to get cover and let him switch off,” Lloyd said.

“I had to use him to cross the runners to my inside and ultimately that left me in front.

“He was very determined in front this horse. Whenever a horse came near him, he wanted to surge away from them. Nice win.”

Peter Snowden said Media World had shown above average talent from the outset but was still maturing and would continue to improve with racing.

He also believes the colt will produce a better turn of foot when he is ridden off the speed.

“I think you’ll see a better version of him again if he switches right off,” Snowden said.

“But he’s very tough. He has been a pleasure to work with all the way through.

“He’s just a touch immature yet, but I like him, and I think he’s got a future.”

The Clarendon Stakes (1400m) doesn’t hold black-type status, but it has historically been a handy form reference having been won by horses such as Zoustar (2013) and Zardozi (2023), who both went on to Group 1 success.
