Godolphin colt Spaces 2025 Spring Stakes rivals at Newcastle

Godolphin’s rising talent Green Spaces delivered a statement win at Newcastle, prompting jockey Rachel King to declare that his full potential remains unclear following his Group 3 Spring Stakes triumph.
Having just his sixth start, the $4 shot unleashed a sharp sprint over the final furlong, surging away from Bird Whistle ($51) by three lengths, with Long Legs ($6) battling on gamely for third.
The colt is thriving under new trainer Bjorn Baker, who also delivered Godolphin success this season with Pericles — the Tramway Stakes winner and Group 1 Champions Mile runner-up. Green Spaces will now be spelled ahead of a targeted autumn campaign.
“He’s a lovely horse. He’s got that great, natural ability, he’s got a fantastic attitude, and he’s still learning,” King said.
“He hit the front and still had a wander today. I felt like, if something had come to him, he had plenty more there. I like a lot about him.
“He is becoming more professional every time he steps out so if he keeps going on the upwards trajectory that he is, I don’t know where he will end up.”
Green Spaces made a winning debut for James Cummings at Geelong in April before joining Baker’s operation when Godolphin adopted its public stable model at the beginning of the season.
His confidence has grown with recent victories at Wyong and again in the Spring Stakes (1600m). Baker’s racing manager Luke Hilton said the colt is flourishing with experience.
“He struts out at home like he owns the joint,” Hilton said.
“I think he’s going to get a trip and I think there are better things for him in the autumn.”
Hilton confirmed the colt will now have a break before being set for key Sydney three-year-old races in the autumn.
