Legacy Bound aiming to build legacy in VRC Sprint Classic

Robbie Griffiths, the trainer, recognizes Legacy Bound's ability to get the job done in races.
From gate seven, Legacy Bound will contest the Listed VRC Sprint Classic (1100m) at Flemington on Saturday, with hopes of boosting his Flemington form and notching up win five.
The Ole Kirk three-year-old has four prior starts at the venue, yielding two wins, a third, and a fourth when stuck on the rail while others placed from wider spots.
Among those efforts – both successes included – three occurred at 1100m, and his third place was at 1200m in the spring Coolmore Stud Stakes where Tentyris and My Gladiola finished ahead.
That duo returned in last month's Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington, claiming the top two positions.
Tentyris skips this weekend, yet My Gladiola appears, whom Griffiths admits might prove tough to overcome.
"She had the upperhand in the Coolmore, but she came from off the speed and we did more work up the front, and she might be better than us, who knows," Griffiths said.
"She was also fantastic in Lightning, and she gets the weight advantage on us here.
"Probably on facts and figures, she beats us, but it doesn't always work out like that, as we all know, and he's got a great win record.
"Whether that's because he's been in easier races than hers, who knows."
Returning with an 1100m success at Flemington on March 7, Griffiths noted the sprinter has progressed well post-race.
"He certainly hasn't gone backwards," Griffiths said.
"He went into the race in good order. He won, he came out of it in good order.
"He's gone forward, but he only does as much as he has to in training, so we just keep him ticking over, but he had a good gallop on Monday morning.
"The stats on his sectional times from his first-up indicated he would have run really well in the Newmarket, if that means anything.
"He's a winner, he's won down the straight a couple of times now and let's hope we can do it again."
A potential visit to Adelaide targeting the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville come May is still in Legacy Bound's plans, per Griffiths.
