Mr Brightside a chance for 2025 The Pinnacles
Mr Brightside could soon be adding Perth to his list of racing destinations, with Lindsay Park considering a trip west for The Pinnacles carnival later this year.
The Hayes training trio — Ben, Will and JD — has entered the multiple Group 1 star for the $1.5 million Group 3 The Gold Rush (1400m) at Ascot on December 13.
Ben Hayes said the Perth option will hinge on how the gelding performs in his next targets, the Champions Mile (1600m) at Flemington and possibly the C F Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.
“We’ve put him in the noms for Perth, and the thinking is that they’ve moved the Orr to being a week after the Champions Mile,” Hayes explained.
“We just think that his prep in the autumn there is only the Futurity and the All-Star Mile before you either step up to 2000 metres or head to Sydney for the Doncaster Mile or All-Aged Stakes.”
Hayes said that if Mr Brightside does travel, it would keep him fresh and fit between campaigns.
“If we do go to Perth, it keeps him ticking over from spring to the autumn,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity to keep him at peak fitness heading into the Futurity.”
Traveling to Perth is a familiar move for the Hayes family, with Ben noting that both Colin and David Hayes made regular trips west for the summer carnival.
“The trip over brings horses on,” Hayes said. “You can argue his trip to Hong Kong improved him. He’s come back in career best form.”
Lindsay Park has several other nominations for the Perth features, including Evaporate, War Machine, Arkansaw Kid, Apulia, Alenquer, Here To Shock and Marble Arch for the Railway Stakes, Winterbottom Stakes, Northerly Stakes and The Gold Rush.
Fans keen to back Mr Brightside or other Perth carnival contenders can find the latest markets on top Australian betting sites including Sportsbet, Ladbrokes and TAB.
